This is a newly created Head of Technical role within a long-established, family-owned seed business that is profitable, growing and actively investing in both technology and research to support its long-term strategy. Recently, the company announced multi-million-pound investment including a new seed processing and R&D facility, alongside an upcoming Innovation Centre designed to accelerate plant research, product development and future growth.

This significant investment demonstrates a genuine commitment to innovation, giving you the opportunity to play a key role in shaping the next generation of premium seed solutions with a business that is investing heavily in its people, products and capabilities. Alongside this, investment is not looking to slow down giving you plenty to get your teeth into!

With a strong reputation for the quality of their product, the organisation is now looking to take its technical capability from great to best in class. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this role offers real autonomy with minimal red tape to achieve greatness. You’ll shape the technical agenda across quality, compliance, safety and process, with a clear expectation that technical leadership underpins commercial performance, customer confidence and market access.

You will inherit strong foundations, established standards and a committed technical team, allowing the focus to be on upgrading systems and processes in line with recent and ongoing investment, rather than firefighting. There is a clear opportunity to build a high-performing technical function, mentor future leaders and leave a lasting legacy as the business continues to grow. In addition to this, there is further scope for the role to grow and gain European and international exposure.

The business is a long-established, privately owned seed company with a diverse group structure spanning vegetable seed, agricultural seed and specialist seed technology services. It operates exclusively in B2B markets, supplying direct sales to growers and farmers, ensuring high-quality seed delivery for agricultural production. It also works closely with European and USA breeding partners, providing access to external expertise and international collaboration.

What You’ll Need:

  • A background in food, agriculture, horticulture or a related industry
  • Experience leading technical teams and driving organisational change
  • Relevant degree or professional qualifications in food safety, agricultural science, or a similar discipline
  • Strong systems and process improvement focus
  • Collaborative, commercially minded, and values-driven leader with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement
  • Experience of formal industry qualifications such as HACCP, Lead Auditor or IOSH would be advantageous.

This role is not retailer-led and does not require retailer-facing technical experience. The focus is on the development and improvement of technical and quality systems, coaching the team and raising the bar from great to best in class.
