Responsibilities
- Act as a full member of the staff team of the Service and contribute to the development of the Service within the Directorate.
- Manage an individual caseload, work with individuals and groups of young people, and participate in duty work, responding to needs as they arise.
- Participate in the provision of appropriate programmes for individual service users, in conjunction with other Directorate staff and agencies, to assist young people in their transition to adulthood, particularly from being in care to living independently.
- Implement and adhere to all relevant Directorate and Service procedures as an aftercare adviser.
- Adopt a holistic approach to meeting the individual needs of service users and promote their involvement in the process to develop their self-esteem through positive achievement.
- Keep in touch with young people to achieve this aim.
- Advise other Directorate staff regarding the preparation and support needs of care leavers and assist in promoting services for these groups.
- Liaise with various Directorate and agency initiatives and promote corporate or inter-agency approaches.
- Work with other agencies to maximise resource provision for the benefit of Directorate service users.
- Provide information and support to young people on an individual or group basis as appropriate.
- Be responsible for directly working with allocated young people and ensure all necessary assessment, intervention, and recording of work is completed.
- Participate in the provision of a duty/referral service and advise young people and their referrers as part of this process.
Qualifications
- Keep up to date with new trends and developments in legislation, policy, and practice in aftercare, accommodation, employment, benefits, and childcare to appropriately advise others.
- Undertake any training considered appropriate to the duties of the post, resources permitting, to facilitate ongoing development of the post and service.
- Participate in regular supervision sessions as required.
- Participate in appropriate working parties that contribute to the further development of 18+ Services.
- Contribute to the provision of appropriate training programmes for 18+ Directorate and other agency staff to promote more effective services to care leavers.
- Work flexible hours as required to meet the needs of the services and service users.
- Willingness to undergo appropriate training courses as directed, including to NVQ level 3.
- Substantial experience of working with children and young people up to the age of 21, and 25 if in higher education, in a voluntary or professional setting.
- Experience of interagency work with vulnerable young people who are at risk, homeless, or have been in care.
- Experience of being responsible for directly assisting young people (caseload responsibility).
- Have worked successfully in achieving outcomes for young people under supervision.
