We are looking for a senior contracts and construction professional to help lead a substantial maintenance and property services operation for a local authority. This is an opportunity to shape service delivery, manage significant contracts and budgets, and contribute to the organisation’s wider strategic direction.

You will oversee services across construction, maintenance and contracts, taking responsibility for performance, financial management, procurement and staff development. You will act as a senior leader within the service and deputise for the Operations Manager when required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing project, contract and surveying functions, including quantity surveying and estimating.
  • Leading procurement activity and overseeing major contracts and contractor performance.
  • Managing budgets, preparing estimates and monitoring financial performance.
  • Leading and developing staff, including setting objectives and supporting training.
  • Advising on construction projects, contract disputes, claims and service risks.
  • Ensuring health and safety requirements are met, including duties under CDM regulations.
  • Contributing to service strategy, performance management and continuous improvement.
  • Working with colleagues, contractors and external organisations to deliver responsive, customer-focused services.

You will have a relevant degree, such as Construction Management or Quantity Surveying, and substantial technical and management experience. You will bring senior-level experience in construction projects, contracts, quantity surveying and estimating, as well as managing budgets and teams.

You will have a sound understanding of construction legislation, health and safety, CDM and relevant management systems. You’ll be confident leading procurement, managing risk, resolving contractor issues and building effective working relationships. Membership of a relevant professional body, such as MCIOB or MRICS, would be an advantage.

The role may require additional hours at busy periods and attendance at evening meetings.
