Company informationCortirio’s mission is to save lives by developing low-cost, portable brain imaging.
Globally, stroke is the leading cause of life-long disability and head injuries are the most common cause of death in the under 40s. There is currently no way to definitively diagnose stroke or head injuries at the point of care and we are changing that through the use of our accessible, head worn device.
Our technology uses infrared light to image blood at high resolution and automatically detects abnormalities in the brain. This allows the device to be used anywhere from surgery to ambulances, from A&E to intensive care monitoring
This is a hands-on role working on R&D projects within a small, cross-functional team of engineers, doctors and scientists to develop a head-worn brain imaging diagnostic device. We’re looking for someone who enjoys working in an open-ended R&D environment, where the technology and the product are still evolving. We want someone who is excited by the challenge - someone who uses data and experimentation to determine what we build next.
You will:
- Take a data-driven, iterative approach to mechanical design, focusing on using experimental data to test concepts, correlate design changes with system-level performance and guide design decisions, e.g. measure the impact of material selection, geometry and interfaces to ensure mechanical improvements do not compromise key system metrics (e.g. sensor SNR).
- Design and build benchtop test rigs and experimental setups to characterise and validate system performance.
- Design for human variability, developing a head-worn system that is comfortable, robust and able to accommodate different users while maintaining reliable system performance.
- Rapidly prototype and iterate mechanical components and assemblies using a range of materials and manufacturing processes.
- Take ownership of the mechanical engineering workspace, including tools, equipment and processes, and work with the wider mechanical engineering team to continuously improve how we design, build and test hardware.
This is a role for someone who is comfortable not knowing exactly what the next design will look like. Someone who can take a curious and creative approach to problem-solving while maintaining a detail-oriented, analytical and pragmatic approach to the engineering - able to move quickly from an idea to a prototype, test it rigorously, learn from the results and use that learning to decide what to do next.
Cortirio offers the chance to have a big impact on a global problem whilst developing cutting edge technology. You will have a significant role in shaping the development of our novel headset. We support cross functional working and encourage you to get an overview of all areas of the product.
Given the hardware focussed nature of our work, we mostly work from our office in London Bridge but we’ll be flexible where possible. We offer meaningful share options, flexible working arrangements and 33 days annual leave. Work life balance is important to us and we are dedicated to building a fantastic place to work.
If you want to have the autonomy to have a big impact on the product, the company and the world, we’d love to hear from you!
