Cortex Reply UK leverages generative AI to enhance operational excellence and solve business challenges. We specialise in delivering innovative, secure, and cost-effective AI solutions to empower organisations while ensuring regulatory compliance. Our expertise enables businesses to embrace cutting-edge technologies, driving lasting competitive advantages. We are committed to creating transformative opportunities for our clients through AI-driven innovation.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with broad experience for a full-time hybrid role based in Manchester, comfortable being the technical face of Cortex Reply on client sites and engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will design, develop, and maintain robust full-stack software solutions, working across both client-facing engagements and internal projects. Client work often puts you in regulated industries - financial services, government - where compliance, security, and reliability are non-negotiable. Internal work is about building our AI-focused propositions: developing agentic systems, experimenting with emerging frameworks, and turning that expertise into reusable approaches we can take to market. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, write clean and well-tested code, and contribute to our engineering standards and practices. Technical mentoring of more junior colleagues will be part of the role.

What You'll Work On

  • Designing and building agentic AI and multi-agent systems using frameworks such as AWS Strands, with MCP and A2A protocols
  • Full stack services in Python (FastAPI) and TypeScript (Next.js), built to production standards with full CI/CD pipelines
  • Cloud infrastructure on AWS and Azure, provisioned via Terraform
  • Internal tooling and frameworks to accelerate delivery and codify engineering best practice

What We're Looking For

  • Strong Python and TypeScript skills, with experience building production-grade APIs and services (FastAPI or equivalent)
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure, including serverless and container-based workloads (Lambda, ECS, Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Solid understanding of DevSecOps practices: CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code quality tooling
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform
  • Familiarity with agentic AI concepts and frameworks: LLMs, RAG, vector search, agent orchestration
  • A track record of writing clean, well-tested, well-documented code and contributing meaningfully to team engineering standards
  • Exposure to multi-agent systems and protocols (MCP, A2A, Autogen, AWS Strands)
  • Understanding of responsible AI principles and compliance requirements in regulated industries
  • Experience with API design and event-driven architectures
  • Experience with observability tooling such as OpenTelemetry, Langfuse, CloudWatch, or X-Ray

Personal Qualities

  • Comfortable working autonomously on client engagements as well as collaborating closely within the team
  • Intellectually curious about where AI is going and keen to be hands-on with emerging technologies before they become mainstream
  • Willing to get stuck in to whatever the client demands
  • Able to communicate clearly with client stakeholders at all levels - as comfortable in a workshop as you are in a codebase
  • Happy to mentor junior colleagues and contribute to a culture of continuous learning

Why Cortex Reply?

  • You will be working at the frontier of enterprise agentic AI, on real client projects in regulated industries where the engineering has to be right
  • A team that takes engineering standards seriously - we have defined practices and tooling across the full delivery lifecycle, and we invest in keeping them current
  • Genuine opportunity to shape our internal AI proposition and contribute to how we work as a team

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
