The Role

This is a varied position at the heart of the Quotes and Engineering team. You will create build file documentation for the manufacturing team, prepare accurate quotations to customer specification, and support the administration of the department. Flexibility is important, as there may also be administration support required in other areas of the business such as sales order and purchase order processing. Once established, the role may develop into supporting the contract review stage, checking customer purchase orders against quotations via the quote log and Sage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering
    • Create new build files, typically comprising customer drawings, the customer bill of materials, the internal bill of materials and any additional information required, usually compiled as a PDF for use in the manufacturing system.
    • Update existing build files as revision changes occur, following the change control process.
    • Apply revision updates to labels and create kit lists where required.
    • Work with team leaders to capture additional build notes for inclusion in build files.
    • Ensure BOMs are loaded correctly on the system and build files are created in good time for production.
    • Develop your technical knowledge and seek out the best ways to find technical solutions.
    • Look for opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Quotations
    • Using the customer's bill of materials, obtain component quotations from suppliers to secure the best price and delivery.
    • Calculate build times and prepare quotations that are clear and easy for the customer to understand.
    • Update pricing on current builds, capture cost changes as they happen and requote where needed.
    • Work closely with the quotes team to manage priorities and keep the quotations log up to date.
    • Liaise with the purchasing team so lead time issues and pricing concerns are clearly captured.
    • Identify and qualify new suppliers to strengthen supply chain resilience, and conduct market analysis to find cost reduction and value creation opportunities.

Skills and Experience

  • A proven track record in preparing accurate quotations, with familiarity with cost estimation and supplier pricing.
  • Customer facing experience, comfortable clarifying requirements and expectations.
  • Hands on engineering exposure, for example assembly, fabrication or design, with a working knowledge of technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in pricing, specifications and terms.
  • Analytical ability to interpret customer requirements and match them to solutions.
  • Commercial awareness, with an understanding of margins, cost structures and profitability.
  • Good time management, able to meet quote submission deadlines.
  • A collaborative approach, working across departments with production, stores, engineering, quality and purchasing.
  • Confident with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power BI. Experience with Cim50 and Sage 50 would be an advantage.
