Role: Buyer

Location: Bristol

Onsite: 4 days per week and WFH Friday

Salary: £38,000 - £48,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications.

We are seeking an experienced Procurement Officer, preferably from a Defence Sector background to join an established Bristol-based Engineering / Defence Services SME based in Central Bristol. We deliver complex manufacturing and critical services to Rolls Royce and the MoD and are growing due to winning a number MoD contracts.

As a Procurement Officer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day Operational Performance oversight. You will be integral to deliver innovative supply chain solutions to support further growth opportunities pursued by the business.

You must have purchase order management skills and already be a Buyer, or even an Assistant Buyer.

For the Buyer role, we would be looking for someone who is a little more experienced in procurement and is potentially already a Buyer, or even an Assistant Buyer with lots of potential. I hope that makes sense, but if you need anything further, please let me know.

Main duties

  • Convert Purchase Requestions to Purchase Orders and issue to suppliers.
  • Prepare, issue and review supplier RFQ’s, recommending preferred options to all relevant Stakeholders.
  • Identify resolutions for critical path supply.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining key supplier relationships and support supplier performance improvement.
  • Take ownership of Order Book Management activities, liaising with suppliers to ensure materials / components are bought in line with customer requirements and contractual lead-times are achieved.
  • Manage goods in and invoice queries associated with your orderbook.
  • Ensure data accuracy of the ERP system is maintained with valid pricing and purchase requirements.
  • Support the Procurement Manager in the tendering and sourcing process in accordance with agreed project deliverables.
  • Support in Strategic Sourcing to ensure best practice sourcing and pricing portfolio is achieved.
  • Confidently negotiate and agree Terms and Conditions, and contractual agreements including the flow-down and management of KPI’s.

The Company may amend these duties from time to time and may require you to undertake other duties as necessary to meet the needs of the business.

Professional Skills / Abilities:

  • Able to establish strong relationships with key stakeholders across the business.
  • Good understanding of Procurement within a Project Management function
  • Must be self-motivated with a flexible approach to workload.
  • Excellent I.T. Skills (Microsoft Excel essential).
  • Strong attention to detail (essential).
  • Data analysis skills.
  • Basic understanding of engineering (desirable).

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience within a procurement environment (essential)
  • Educated to Degree Level Qualification (or working towards) in relevant subject.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body e.g., CIPS (desirable but not essential).
  • MRP Skills (IFS desirable but not essential).
  • Full Driving Licence and willingness to travel.
  • Ability to obtain the relevant Security Clearance (SC)
