We are an established company in the Bristol area specialising in the design, production and operation of multi‐functional, high technology. We are currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience of commercial vehicle "body build" design to work in our Design and Development team.
Technical Skills
- Qualified and apprentice served to degree Level, HNC/HND or NVQ 4, 5 or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
- Ability to design to conform to commercial vehicle bodybuilding regulations.
- Competent at generating detail and assembly drawings for manufacture/procurement using CAD, preferably "Autodesk Inventor".
- Excellent understanding of mechanical systems (vibration, stress calcs, limits and fits etc.).
- Produce BOM's, parts list, operator's manuals and maintain drawing office records. Ensuring accurate records and future traceability are maintained.
- Source suitable products for company use, liaise with procurement and progress as necessary.
- Application of all relative standards, ensuring health & safety, vehicle road legality, vehicle type approval, risk assessment etc. are met.
- Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) knowledge/experience.
- Focused on systems' costs, longevity, reliability, robustness and mechanical safety.
Experience
- At least 5 years of relevant design experience.
- Familiar with the use of engineering materials such as stainless, mild steel alloys and plastics.
- Design of precision components, shafts, bearing housings, gears etc.
- Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics and some process water circuitry including valves, pumps and instrumentation.
- Practical experience from a workshop environment.
- Good commercial awareness, regarding costs, safety and quality.
- Proficient in the use of office‐based software packages such as Word and Excel.
