Role: Electronics Test Support technician

Location: Huntingdon

Onsite role: 39 hrs a week

Salary: competitive

Job Purpose

To provide test technical support to customers, their products, operations test function, and team members, enabling a complete value-added service to the company.

Requirements

The Engineer role in Test Support (TS) will be self-motivated, able to read and interpret customers’ test requirements, develop, recommend and implement DFT and test solutions for the Company, customers and supply partners. The role involves working with customers, developing test plans and Design for Test solutions. This will involve researching new technologies, methods, procedures and processes adding value, reduce cost and improves overall effectiveness of the test function, both on site and visiting customer locations. Formal qualifications are preferred but not required for this position, however previous experience in a similar role is essential.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret customers’ test specifications and schematics.
  • The ability to propose DFT test plans that delivers the most effective solution for the product.
  • Be a technical point of contact with customers design and technical teams, discussing testing requirements, solutions, product design, performance, yields and improvements. Be comfortable interfacing with customers on technical product and equipment matters.
  • Working independently or part of a team, investigate new, alternative and complementary testing methods (eg Boundary Scan, JTAG) improving coverage, screening, failure analysis and diagnosis.
  • Investigate how to improve test capability and yields, fault investigation, PCB diagnosis, fault finding, feedback and repair cycles.
  • Continuous Improvement, with Quality, Engineering and Production teams investigate defects discovered in Test to be analysed and investigated to find the root cause, feeding back analysis to relevant area of design / operations.
  • Support Operations Test team on equipment specification, operation, product and diagnosis where required.
  • Respond flexibly on reasonable requests utilising and applying competence, knowledge, skills and experience on related tasks and projects.
  • Work within legislative regulations and company rules and policies at all times.

Person Characteristics and Skills:

  • Essential: HND / HNC level education or equivalent, with extensive range of relevant experience. Preferred: Degree or equivalent academic qualifications.
  • Essential: experience working in an electronic PCB / component testing environment with knowledge of electronic hardware.
  • Essential: Analytical with high level of attention to detail.
  • Essential: Use of lab software engineering packages e.g. labview, gerber view. Preferred: competent user of developer software tools Python, Embedded C etc.
  • Essential: Computer literate, competent with MS Office and Excel.
  • Ability to run own projects with minimal supervision.
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills.
  • High standard of report writing skills used to annotate to customers or developing SOP.
  • Be able to work across multiple projects in parallel.
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written.
