This is a standout opportunity for a DevOps Engineer passionate about IoT and eager to work across high-impact sectors including energy, aerospace, manufacturing, and nuclear. The core platform is already built and operational — now we’re scaling it. You’ll take a proven product and help roll it out, optimise it, and evolve it as we onboard more customers and integrate new technologies. Around 30% of the workload is outsourced, so you’ll be building on a strong foundation rather than starting from scratch. You’ll manage and scale cloud-based server infrastructure, support up to 100 live instances in year one, and help shape a platform designed to grow to thousands of devices. This role blends DevOps, IoT connectivity, and real-world deployment — ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on engineering and solving practical challenges in demanding industrial environments.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Deploy, integrate, and support connected devices using Node‑RED, building new flows and data integrations for ThingsBoard and customer systems.
- Configure and manage IoT connectivity, including Chirpstack LoRaWAN LNS on gateways.
- Support Linux VMs, Docker environments, and basic firewall/security rules (Azure NSGs, Cloudflare Access, VPN).
- Ensure secure, reliable device‑to‑cloud data flow using HTTP/MQTT, APIs, Modbus‑TCP, OPC‑UA, and other industrial protocols.
- Commission, validate, and troubleshoot devices, gateways, and networks — including LoRaWAN connectivity in the field.
- Work closely with engineering and customer teams to onboard new devices and customers, producing clear documentation and runbooks.
- Maintain and enhance dashboards and workflows in ThingsBoard.
- Provide light-touch support for a small legacy IIS/SQL Server application (minimal involvement).
What You’ll Bring
Essential Skills
- Strong experience with Node‑RED for building and managing data flows.
- Hands-on experience with LoRaWAN sensors and Chirpstack (or similar LNS).
- Practical experience deploying and supporting IoT or web-connected systems.
- Familiarity with industrial protocols (Modbus‑TCP, OPC‑UA).
- Basic Linux and Docker administration.
- Understanding of firewall/security concepts (Azure NSGs, VPN, Cloudflare).
- Experience with HTTP/MQTT integrations and JSON payloads.
Preferred Skills
- Experience customising dashboards or widgets in ThingsBoard (CE or PE).
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL.
- JavaScript scripting skills (or willingness to learn TBEL).
- Exposure to IIS and SQL Server.
- Strong problem-solving ability and clear communication.
Why Join Us?
- Competitive salary, pension, and performance bonuses.
- Health and wellbeing benefits: Cycle to Work, Holiday Buy‑Back, First Friday Half Days, and increasing annual leave with service.
- Access to an Electric Car Scheme.
- Genuine opportunities for professional development and long-term career growth.
- A collaborative, innovative environment where your ideas and ownership will shape the future of the platform.
