This is an exciting role for an IoT DevOps engineer who is wanting to work in IoT, energy, aerospace, manufacturing, and nuclear. This is 80% DevOps and server management and the other 20% to gather data.
We need a DevOps engineer to support the deployment, maintenance, and operation of secure, connected monitoring systems for harsh industrial environments. You will deliver cloud and on-prem solutions that connect ultrasonic sensors, including LoRaWAN-based, to provide actionable asset data to end users.
This hands-on role involves system integration, device onboarding, data flow management, and managing live customer instances. You will work closely with internal engineering teams and external partners to support real-world deployments in sectors including energy, chemicals, and manufacturing, with a focus on long-term corrosion monitoring and defect detection.
Your focus will be developing Node-RED flows which ingest and output data in a range of IoT and industrial formats. You will also be responsible for connecting IoT devices, including configuration of on-gateway LoRaWAN LNS using Chirpstack.
In year one, you will support a pilot with around 10 customers and up to 100 devices, building processes that will scale to thousands of devices in future years.
This is a varied and practical role that offers the opportunity to take ownership of system integration and deployment activities. It suits a technically capable, proactive engineer who works well independently and is confident operating in demanding, safety-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities:- Deploy, integrate, and support connected devices to Thingsboard and customer systems using Node-RED, including developing new flows and integrations.
- Connection of IoT devices including configuration of on-gateway Chirpstack LoRaWAN LNS and deployment of connected devices.
- Assist with Linux VMs, Docker, and basic firewall rules under an established runbook (e.g. Azure NSGs, Cloudflare Access) to ensure secure deployments.
- Ensure secure and reliable device-to-cloud data flow using HTTP/MQTT, APIs, and modern industrial protocols (e.g. Modbus-TCP, OPC-UA).
- Commission and troubleshoot devices, gateways, and networks in the field, including validating LoRaWAN connectivity.
- Collaborate with engineering and customer support teams to onboard new devices and customers smoothly, and provide knowledge transfer through concise documentation and runbooks.
- Support the maintenance and improvement of dashboards and workflows in ThingsBoard.
- Provide light support for a small legacy IIS/SQL Server application (minimal time commitment, basic configuration only).
- Use of Node-RED for building and managing data flows.
- Experience with LoRaWAN sensors and Chirpstack (or similar) LNS platforms.
- Hands-on experience deploying and supporting IoT or web-connected systems.
- Familiarity with industrial protocols such as Modbus-TCP and OPC-UA.
- Basic firewall/security administration (e.g. Azure NSGs, VPN, or Cloudflare rules).
- Basic Linux and Docker administration.
- HTTP/MQTT integration and JSON payload handling.
- Experience editing dashboards or building custom widgets in ThingsBoard (PE or CE).
- Practical use of PostgreSQL.
- Scripting in JavaScript (or similar); willing to learn TBEL.
- Exposure to IIS and SQL Server.
- Good problem-solving and communication skills.
- Competitive salary, pension and performance bonuses.
- Comprehensive health and wellness benefits including Cycle to Work Scheme, Holiday Buy-back and First Friday Half Days monthly, with increasing leave on years of service.
- Access to Electric Car Scheme.
- Opportunities for professional development and career growth.
- Collaborative and innovative work environment.
