About the job:
We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to work for a clean tech company with experience ideally in turbomachinery who is hands-on with Siemens NX. The successful mechanical engineer will be pioneering Next-Generation Industrial Technology! You will be developing revolutionary machinery designed to transform some of the world’s most energy-intensive industries. The team’s mission is bold: enable deep decarbonisation across petrochemicals, chemicals, iron and steel, and cement by replacing traditional fossil-fuel-based processes with breakthrough rotating technology. With teams operating across the UK, Finland, and the Netherlands, this is a fast-growing international environment where world-class experts collaborate to build the foundations of a cleaner industrial era.
Your Impact:
As Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering the mechanical design of highly advanced turbomachinery systems—technology with the potential to reshape global heavy industry. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to engineering innovation at scale and be part of a team making genuine industrial history.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead the mechanical design of complex turbomachinery components and sub-systems from concept through to release.
- Create and release product definition using Siemens NX, with full lifecycle control in Teamcenter PLM.
- Perform and oversee design optimisation using 1D hand calculations, 2D analyses, and 3D FEA (structural, thermal, modal, fatigue).
- Review, check, and approve mechanical deliverables to ensure quality and compliance.
- Collaborate with specialists to define mechanical sub-system requirements, select optimal machine architectures, and ensure mechanical robustness.
- Drive design optimisation through 1D, 2D, and 3D analytical methods.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of mechanical design methods and tools.
- Prepare and present project updates to stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to team members.
- Ensure adherence to relevant codes and standards (BS, ASME, API, ISO, etc.).
- Work cross-functionally to ensure the product offering is fully optimised for mechanical performance.
What You’ll Bring:
- 7+ years’ experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally with turbomachinery or high-temperature static structures (casings, combustors, ducts, frames).
- Strong understanding of material properties and manufacturing processes for high-temperature alloys (nickel-based, stainless steels, etc.).
- Experience applying thermo-mechanical analysis and life assessment methods (creep, fatigue, LCF/HCF) to rotating and static components.
- Proven analytical capability and first-principles problem-solving mindset.
- Proficiency in Siemens NX and Teamcenter PLM.
- Strong experience in engineering product definition, from 2D drawings to model-based definition.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and independently with minimal supervision.
Bonus Points:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (higher degree preferred).
- Professional registration or progress toward Chartered Engineer status.
- Experience in fast-paced technology development environments.
- Background in R&D or SME settings where first-principles engineering is essential.
- Experience with Python or similar languages for automation and workflow optimisation.
Why Join:
You’ll be part of a mission-driven organisation where diverse perspectives are valued, innovation is encouraged, and your work directly contributes to global industrial decarbonisation. If you want to help shape the future of heavy industry and thrive in a dynamic, international environment, we’d love to hear from you.
