We are seeking a talented Assistant Project Manager (APM) to join an established Bristol based Engineering / Defence Services SME. If you have an entrepreneurial side and a passion for pushing the envelope while maintaining procurements, we would like to hear from you. We welcome candidates from an admin background looking for a career and eager to learn. We have successfully trained individuals from teaching and admin roles to become assistant project managers because we believe skills can be developed with the right person. However, if you are currently an APM, we also want to hear from you!
We supply complex manufacturing and critical services to Rolls Royce and the MoD. You will be working from our Bristol city centre office. We are seeking driven individuals to join a high performing team for a PM career. We will support your development, fund additional qualifications, and strive to maintain a good work-life balance.
As an APM, you should possess:
- Admin skills in Excel
- People skills to work with various departments
- Sales order and customer experience
- Ability to communicate with buyers and end customers, ensuring a customer-focused approach
- Capability to manage data accurately
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering key project management functions in support of overall project delivery including financial, schedule, quality, and risk functions
- Completing tasks assigned by the Director of Project in a timely manner and assisting with activities to achieve project deliverables
- Communicating with stakeholders on project progress and capturing their requirements
- Creating, monitoring, and managing customer demands in an ERP system to meet contractual delivery KPI targets
- Managing Post Design Services requested by the customer within agreed constraints, including reporting performance to the customer and the Director of Projects
- Developing strong relationships with key customer stakeholders to capture, analyse, and achieve customer requirements
- Creating monthly project progress reports for both internal and external stakeholders to update schedules in line with project reporting timelines and best practices
- Overseeing variable aspects of the project and providing direct assistance to ensure timely project execution
- Applying effective risk management throughout the project life cycle to mitigate the risk of project failure
- Assisting in the planning and scheduling of project activities including resource levelling and smoothing
- Creating and utilising cost models to input and analyse data collected from the Procurement Team
The Company may amend these duties from time to time and may require you to undertake other duties as necessary to meet the needs of the business.
Professional Skills / Abilities:
- Able to establish strong relationships with key stakeholders across the business
- Good understanding of Project Management
- Self-motivated with a flexible approach to workload
- Strong attention to detail (essential)
- Basic understanding of engineering (desirable)
Experience & Qualifications:
- Educated to Degree Level Qualification (or working towards) in a relevant subject
- Membership of a relevant professional body e.g., APM (desirable but not essential)
- Proven Project Management Experience in an Operational Procurement Environment in the Defence Sector (preferred)
- MRP Skills (IFS desirable but not essential)
- Full Driving Licence and willingness to travel
