Must have: Rotating equipment experience on large industrial machines.
About the job:
We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to work for a clean tech company with experience ideally in turbomachinery who is hands-on with Siemens NX. The successful mechanical engineer will be pioneering NextâGeneration Industrial Technology! You will be developing revolutionary machinery designed to transform some of the world's most energyâintensive industries. The team's mission is bold: enable deep decarbonisation across petrochemicals, chemicals, iron and steel, and cement by replacing traditional fossilâfuelâbased processes with breakthrough rotating technology.
Your Impact:
As Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering the mechanical design of highly advanced turbomachinery systemsâtechnology with the potential to reshape global heavy industry. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to engineering innovation at scale and be part of a team making genuine industrial history.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Lead the mechanical design of complex turbomachinery components and subâsystems from concept through to release.
- Create and release product definition using Siemens NX, with full lifecycle control in Teamcenter PLM.
- Perform and oversee design optimisation using 1D hand calculations, 2D analyses, and 3D FEA (structural, thermal, modal, fatigue).
- Review, check, and approve mechanical deliverables to ensure quality and compliance.
- Collaborate with specialists to define mechanical subâsystem requirements, select optimal machine architectures, and ensure mechanical robustness.
- Drive design optimisation through 1D, 2D, and 3D analytical methods.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of mechanical design methods and tools.
- Prepare and present project updates to stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to team members.
- Ensure adherence to relevant codes and standards (BS, ASME, API, ISO, etc.).
- Work crossâfunctionally to ensure the product offering is fully optimised for mechanical performance.
What You'll Bring:
- 7+ years' experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally with turbomachinery or highâtemperature static structures (casings, combustors, ducts, frames).
- Strong understanding of material properties and manufacturing processes for highâtemperature alloys (nickelâbased, stainless steels, etc.).
- Experience applying thermoâmechanical analysis and life assessment methods (creep, fatigue, LCF/HCF) to rotating and static components.
- Proven analytical capability and firstâprinciples problemâsolving mindset.
- Proficiency in Siemens NX and Teamcenter PLM.
- Strong experience in engineering product definition, from 2D drawings to modelâbased definition.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and independently with minimal supervision.
Bonus Points:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (higher degree preferred).
- Professional registration or progress toward Chartered Engineer status.
- Experience in fastâpaced technology development environments.
- Background in R&D or SME settings where firstâprinciples engineering is essential.
- Experience with Python or similar languages for automation and workflow optimisation.
Why Join:
You'll be part of a missionâdriven organisation where diverse perspectives are valued, innovation is encouraged, and your work directly contributes to global industrial decarbonisation.
