Role Purpose: To design, develop and industrialise Matter-certified, Thread-based dimming products for smart lighting applications, from concept through to production. The role spans hardware, firmware and system integration, with a strong focus on regulatory compliance, interoperability and high-quality dimming performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Product & System Design: Design smart dimming products (leading-edge, trailing-edge, 0–10V, DALI or PWM as applicable) compliant with Matter over Thread. Define system architecture covering MCU, RF, power electronics, sensing and protection. Ensure excellent dimming performance (flicker-free, low-noise, wide load compatibility).
- Hardware Engineering: Schematic design and PCB layout oversight for low-power RF and mains-rated electronics. Selection of Thread-capable SoCs (e.g. Nordic, Silicon Labs, NXP, Espressif). Design for EMC, ESD, thermal performance and manufacturability. Support prototype builds, bring-up and debugging.
- Firmware & Connectivity: Develop or integrate embedded firmware for Matter and Thread stacks. Implement device clusters relevant to lighting and dimming. Support OTA updates, commissioning and diagnostics. Work with mobile apps and ecosystem partners (Apple, Google, Amazon).
- Compliance & Certification: Lead or support Matter certification and Thread certification. Ensure compliance with UK/EU regulations (UKCA, CE, LVD, EMC, RED, RoHS). Work with test houses and certification bodies.
- Manufacturing & Lifecycle Support: Collaborate with contract manufacturers to support NPI and mass production. Create technical documentation (schematics, test specs, production test procedures). Support field issues, root-cause analysis and continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Essential: Proven experience designing embedded or electronics products for volume manufacture. Strong understanding of Matter and Thread (or closely related IoT protocols such as Zigbee). Experience with dimming or lighting control electronics. Knowledge of mains-powered product design and safety considerations. Familiarity with UK/EU regulatory requirements.
- Desirable: Hands-on experience taking a Matter product through certification. Experience with smart lighting ecosystems (Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa). Knowledge of DALI, KNX or professional lighting control systems. Experience in cost-down and design optimisation for high-volume products.
Qualifications: Degree (or equivalent experience) in Electronics Engineering, Embedded Systems or a related discipline.
Personal Attributes: Structured, detail-oriented problem solver. MUST BE ABLE TO WORK ON-SITE 5 DAYS A WEEK IN MALMESBURY, WILTSHIRE.
