You will design, develop and industrialise Matter-certified dimming products using Thread for smart lighting applications. This cross-disciplinary role spans hardware, embedded firmware and system integration with a strong focus on interoperability, regulatory compliance and exceptional dimming performance.
Your work will ensure products are ready for volume production, certified to industry standards, and deliver high-quality, flicker-free behaviour across a wide range of loads.
Key Responsibilities
- Product & System Design
- Lead design of smart dimming products (leading/ trailing edge, 0–10V, DALI, PWM).
- Define system architecture including MCU, RF, mains power electronics, sensing and protection circuitry.
- Ensure robust dimming performance: flicker-free, low noise, wide load compatibility.
- Hardware Engineering
- Create and review schematics and PCB layouts for low-power RF and mains-rated circuits.
- Evaluate and select Thread-capable SoCs (e.g., Nordic, Silicon Labs, NXP, Espressif).
- Design for EMC, ESD, thermal performance and manufacturability.
- Support prototype build-ups, bring-up and debugging.
- Firmware & Connectivity
- Develop or integrate embedded firmware for Matter and Thread stacks.
- Implement relevant Zigbee/Thread device clusters for lighting control.
- Support OTA updates, commissioning and diagnostics.
- Interface with mobile apps and cloud / ecosystem partners (Apple, Google, Amazon).
- Compliance & Certification
- Lead/support Matter and Thread certification activity.
- Drive compliance with UKCA, CE, LVD, EMC, RED, and RoHS.
- Manage engagement with test houses and certification bodies.
- Manufacturing & Lifecycle Support
- Collaborate with contract manufacturers during NPI and mass production phases.
- Generate and maintain technical documentation (schematics, test specifications, production test plans).
- Investigate field issues and support continuous improvement efforts.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
- Demonstrable experience designing embedded/electronics products for volume production.
- Strong understanding of Matter and Thread or closely related networks (e.g., Zigbee).
- Experience with dimming and lighting control electronics.
- Knowledge of mains-powered product design and safety requirements.
- Familiarity with UK/EU regulatory compliance and certification processes.
Desirable
- Hands-on experience achieving Matter certification.
- Exposure to smart lighting ecosystems (Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa).
- Knowledge of DALI, KNX or professional lighting control systems.
- Experience with design optimization and cost engineering for high-volume manufacture.
This could be a role for a Graduate with 1-2 years experience, or someone with 4-5 years working knowledge.
Qualifications
Degree or equivalent in Electronics Engineering, Embedded Systems or a related discipline.
