Business Development Manager – Freight Forwarding
Location: Manchester
Salary: £50,000 – £70,000 + Car Allowance + Excellent Benefits
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Business Development Manager to join a leading global freight forwarding organisation in the Manchester area, offering a fantastic opportunity for a driven sales professional to develop new business and grow market share across all modes of transport, with a particular focus on Air and Ocean Freight.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded individual with a strong freight forwarding background, a proven track record in new business development and a genuine hunter mentality.
The Role:
- Proactively identify, target and secure new business opportunities across Air, Ocean and Road Freight.
- Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective customers through cold calling, networking and face-to-face meetings.
- Generate new revenue and achieve agreed sales and gross profit targets.
- Build and develop long-term relationships with key customers and decision-makers.
- Understand customer requirements and deliver tailored freight forwarding solutions.
- Prepare and present commercial proposals, quotations and tenders.
- Identify opportunities to increase market share and expand the customer portfolio.
- Work closely with internal operations and management teams to ensure excellent service delivery.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity and emerging business opportunities.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in Business Development within the freight forwarding industry.
- Strong understanding of Air and Ocean Freight, ideally with exposure to Road Freight.
- A demonstrable track record of winning new business and generating revenue.
- Confident with cold calling, client meetings, negotiations and closing deals.
- Strong commercial awareness and relationship-building skills.
- Self-motivated, target-driven and comfortable working independently.
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel for customer meetings.
