We’re working with an established international freight forwarder looking to appoint an experienced Multimodal Business Development Manager to develop new business across Manchester and the wider North West. The role will focus on winning new customers across air, ocean and European road freight, giving you the flexibility to develop solutions around the customer rather than being restricted to a single product. You’ll be responsible for developing your own territory, generating new opportunities and converting prospects into profitable, long-term accounts.
The Role
- Identify and secure new freight forwarding business throughout the North West
- Develop opportunities across air, ocean and European road freight
- Target businesses with international import and export requirements
- Build and manage a strong pipeline of qualified prospects
- Conduct regular face-to-face meetings throughout the region
- Understand customer supply chains and develop tailored freight solutions
- Work closely with operational and pricing teams on commercial proposals
- Negotiate commercial agreements from initial prospect through to implementation
- Cross-sell additional customs, warehousing and logistics services
- Develop additional revenue opportunities within newly secured accounts
- Maintain accurate CRM records and forecasts
- Achieve agreed revenue and gross profit targets
The Person
- Proven experience within freight forwarding sales / business development
- Strong multimodal knowledge across air, ocean and/or European road freight
- Ideally an existing network across Manchester and the North West
- Strong track record of generating and converting new business
- Good understanding of freight pricing, margins and profitability
- Confident presenting and negotiating with senior decision-makers
- Strong relationship-building and networking ability
- Self-motivated and comfortable managing a field-based territory
- Full UK driving licence
