The Opportunity

We are recruiting an experienced European Road Freight Operator to join a growing freight operation based in Birmingham. This role is heavily focused on European FTL road freight imports and exports, with some additional domestic UK movements. A key part of the position will be sourcing reliable transport capacity, so we are particularly interested in candidates who already have a strong UK and European carrier / haulier network, especially across artic and full-load movements. You will manage shipments from initial booking through to final delivery, working closely with customers, carriers, customs agents and European partners to deliver reliable and commercially competitive transport solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end European FTL road freight imports and exports
  • Coordinate a smaller volume of domestic UK road freight movements
  • Source suitable UK and European hauliers for full-load movements
  • Utilise and develop an established carrier network, particularly across artic capacity
  • Negotiate competitive transport rates with carriers and suppliers
  • Arrange collections and deliveries throughout the UK and Europe
  • Manage shipments from booking through to final delivery
  • Liaise with customers, hauliers, customs agents and European partners
  • Monitor live shipments and proactively resolve delays or operational issues
  • Ensure relevant customs and transport documentation is completed accurately
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing carriers whilst developing new suppliers
  • Provide customers with regular shipment updates and high levels of service

About You

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • Previous experience as a Road Freight Operator, European Road Freight Operator or Freight Forwarder
  • Strong experience handling European FTL imports and exports
  • A good existing UK and European carrier / haulier network
  • Strong experience sourcing artic / HGV capacity
  • Experience managing full-load road freight shipments from start to finish
  • Confidence negotiating carrier rates and securing cost-effective transport solutions
  • Good knowledge of European road freight procedures
  • Understanding of EU customs requirements and documentation
  • Strong communication, organisation and customer service skills
  • The ability to manage multiple live shipments simultaneously

Experience handling domestic UK road freight movements would also be advantageous.
