Location: Tanera Mor
Hours: 40 hours per week. Monday to Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm (Weekend work required occasionally).
Overview: We are currently recruiting for an HSEQ Deputy Lead for a permanent contract where they would be working for our Client on Tanera Mor. This position is island based with staff accommodation supplied if required. The HSEQ Deputy Lead supports the HSEQ Lead in delivering the island's Health, Safety, Environment and Quality programme. The role carries out inspections, maintains documentation, assists with investigations, and promotes safe working practices across all teams. The individual provides day-to-day compliance support, delivers training, and helps maintain a positive and proactive safety culture on the island.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the HSEQ Lead in delivering the island's Health, Safety, Environment and Quality programme.
- Carry out routine inspections, checks and audits, ensuring issues are recorded and escalated.
- Help maintain policies, procedures, risk assessments and safety documentation.
- Assist with incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are followed through.
- Deliver inductions and toolbox talks and support training delivery across teams.
- Coordinate day-to-day compliance tasks such as checks, testing schedules and statutory record-keeping.
- Support the HSEQ Lead in overseeing the waste management strategy across the island and mainland.
- Support emergency preparedness planning and drills.
- Act as a visible presence across the business, encouraging safe working behaviours and early reporting.
- Deputise for the HSEQ Lead when required.
Key Relationships:
- Reports directly to the HSEQ Lead.
- Works daily with Function Leads across all three Groups.
- Interfaces with contractors, visitors and seasonal staff during inductions and inspections.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Good understanding of health and safety principles and willingness to build deeper technical knowledge.
- Experience working in an operational, maintenance, marine, outdoor or similar practical environment.
- Strong organisational skills and confidence handling documentation.
- Clear communicator, able to work with all teams and encourage safe practices.
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach.
- Comfortable being out across the company's sites and working hands-on when needed.
- Strong IT skills with experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PDF tools; capable of producing and maintaining accurate electronic records and reports.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications:
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent (or willingness to undertake training).
- Experience in audits, inspections or compliance tasks.
- Experience in incident reporting or basic investigation.
- Interest in environmental work, biodiversity, sustainability or resource management.
- Experience in estates, maintenance, marine operations or hospitality-led environments.
- Experience in delivering training sessions, including the ability to engage diverse audiences and adapt content for different learning styles.
