We are recruiting for a Procurement / Buyer Assistant to support a busy procurement team within a well-established civil engineering contractor. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in purchasing or supply chain support—particularly within construction—to play a key role in ensuring materials, equipment, and services are procured efficiently, cost-effectively, and in line with company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support sourcing of materials, tools, plant, and consumables
- Request, collect, and compare supplier quotations and pricing
- Raise and maintain accurate purchase orders and records
- Update and maintain supplier and subcontractor databases
- Monitor deliveries and follow up on lead times and order status
- Assist with invoice checks and reconciliation
- Support tender documentation preparation
- Assist with new supplier setup and onboarding
- Compile procurement data and assist with spend and supplier reporting
- Support stock control and re-ordering of recurring items
- Maintain organised procurement files and documentation
- Provide general administrative support to the Buyer and Procurement Manager
Requirements
Essential:
- Knowledge of supply chain and purchasing activity
- Experience in a purchasing/procurement environment (construction preferred)
- Strong commercial awareness
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving ability
- Ability to work on own initiative and meet deadlines
- Good IT literacy, including Microsoft Office (Intermediate)
- Understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001
Desirable:
- Relevant Purchasing or Buying Qualification
- CIPS Qualification
- Previous experience within civil engineering or construction
