The Role The Principal Scientist will take ownership of assay design, development, and delivery across plant biology and cell science, working within a structured scientific rotation and leadership development programme. Day-to-day, this involves building and refining mode-of-action assays, developing analysis pipelines with a focus on automation and high-throughput capability, and sharing subject matter expertise in plant physiology across the wider organisation. The Principal Scientist will also support team members in maintaining rigorous experimental records and adherence to laboratory protocols, while collaborating across multidisciplinary project teams to drive efficient, timely outcomes. What experience does the Principal Scientist need? A PhD in plant science, or a degree in biology, plant physiology, cell biology, or a closely related field combined with substantial senior-level research experience in plant science Proven expertise in brightfield and fluorescence microscopy, covering both image capture and downstream analysis, alongside a strong grounding in plant physiology and plant cell biology Demonstrated ability to design, build, and deploy assays within a research setting, with experience in automation or high-throughput approaches being advantageous A track record of working across cross-functional teams, communicating effectively on complex topics, and contributing to collaborative scientific goals
