Salary range: £28,622 - £30,902 per annum
Job Purpose
You will be responsible for ensuring that all meals are prepared and served to a high standard, in line with individual dietary needs and preferences. This role includes supervising kitchen staff, managing food stocks and budgets, maintaining hygiene and safety standards, and working collaboratively with the wider care home team to support special events and promote resident wellbeing. Your work will contribute directly to improving the quality of life for our residents through nutritious, enjoyable meals in a clean, welcoming environment.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day smooth operation of the kitchen
- Ensure cleanliness, hygiene, and full compliance with Safer Food, Better Business guidelines
- Support in the preparation, cooking, and service of hot and cold meals using our pre-planned menus
- Understand and cater to special dietary needs, ensuring presentation and nutritional standards are met
- Work with the care team and Wellbeing Coordinator to plan catering for events such as celebrations, fetes, and open days
- Maintain detailed records (food temps, fridge/freezer logs, deliveries, waste, etc.) in line with CQC and Food Safety standards
- Order stock, rotate supplies, and carry out regular audits and inventory checks
- Manage the kitchen budget, control waste, and ensure value-for-money catering
What We're Looking For
- Kind, compassionate, and genuinely passionate about food and care
- Previous kitchen or catering experience (care home experience a plus)
- Organised, reliable, and confident in leading a small team
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
- Ability to complete kitchen reports, audits, and stock management tasks
- Basic knowledge of dietary needs, food safety, and allergy management
- NVQ/Diploma in Catering or willingness to complete one
- Food Hygiene Level 2 or above (or willingness to achieve)
Pay & Hours
Salary: £28,622 - £30,902 per annum (depending on hourly rate/ subject to experience)
40 hours paid per week
Includes every other weekend working
Includes 4 paid Bank Holidays per year
