An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, innovative, flexible, and well-motivated Occupational Therapist to join the East Integrated Rehabilitation Team based primarily within the rehab therapy team at Liskeard Community Hospital.
Under the umbrella of the East Rehab Therapy Team, we provide high quality rehabilitation and reablement in the community, alongside step-down intermediate care in the community bedded settings of Liskeard and Launceston hospitals to adults (aged 18 years or over) who need support after discharge from acute inpatient settings and virtual wards to help them rehabilitate, re-able and recover in East Cornwall.
The post holder will treat patients with complex and varied pathologies and presentations, including a wide variety of conditions e.g., neurological, orthopaedic, respiratory, frailty, and falls. Every contact, treatment plan, and working environment are different bringing variety and challenge to each working day.
It is desired that staff work flexibly in line with a ‘one workforce’ culture across services, settings, and sectors, building relationships and increasing skills. This model aims to increase capacity and access to high quality therapy-led rehabilitation assessments and interventions that are timely, safe, and person-centred, for people discharged on intermediate care pathways from acute settings and virtual wards, both as inpatients and in their own homes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing a high standard occupational therapy service.
- Assessment and treatment/management of patients, some of whom may have acute, complex and/or chronic presentations, carried out as an autonomous practitioner.
- Supervising and delegating to allied health professional support workers.
- Working as part of the East Rehab Therapies Team to ensure a high standard of intervention and effective and efficient service to patients.
- Practising as a lone worker under the supervision of a senior Occupational Therapist.
- Providing supervision for support staff and participating in Student Education.
It will be an expectation of this post that if needed the person works flexibly across all areas of the East Integrated Therapy Team. Seven-day working could become an operational requirement of this post in the future. Currently, the service is commissioned Mon - Fri excluding Bank Holidays. Regular clinical supervision will be provided and continuing professional development encouraged.
We would welcome informal visits to the team. We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you’ll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.
Approximately 568,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area, increasing the numbers of people who use our services.
