Role Description
The Building Surveyor / Building Engineer will carry out detailed inspections of residential and commercial properties, with particular emphasis on mundic concrete, mining subsidence and related structural issues. They will also act as team lead for our survey team overseeing mundic testing and property inspections. Day-to-day tasks include conducting condition surveys, preparing technical reports, advising on remediation options, and supporting our mundic and mining teams with technical surveying or engineering aspects. The role involves the mid-level management of our survey team, technical liaison on our mining remediation projects and assisting with business development. The position is full time and on-site, based in Camborne, and requires regular communication with clients, regulatory bodies, and other property professionals throughout Cornwall and the wider region.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Demonstrated experience in core building surveying activities, including Building Surveying and Condition Surveys.
- Experience in Contract Management for investigation, repair, and remediation works, including coordination with contractors and stakeholders.
- Relevant professional qualification in Building Surveying, Civil/Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline (degree or equivalent experience).
- Professional membership of RICS or IStructE / ICE / CABE.
- Strong analytical and report-writing skills, with attention to detail and the ability to present technical information clearly to non-specialists.
- Familiarity with mundic concrete, mining subsidence, ground conditions, and structural defects, or a willingness to develop expertise in these areas.
- Proficiency in using surveying tools and software, and comfortable working on-site in varied environmental conditions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, regulators, and property professionals.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Valid driving license and capacity to travel within Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset as required.
Salary & Visa Requirements
- Salary range depending on specialist experience £33k to £45k
- Due to UK regulations CMC is not able to offer visa sponsorship to overseas workers.
