Penderlaw Solicitors, a well‑established and respected practice in the centre of Truro, is seeking a confident, organised and professional Receptionist / Legal Assistant to join our team. This is a highly client‑facing role, ideal for someone with strong customer service experience who enjoys providing exceptional support in a professional environment. As the first point of contact for clients, you will play a key role in delivering the firm’s commitment to outstanding client care. You will also provide essential administrative support to fee earners across the practice, contributing to the smooth and efficient running of the office. The role is office‑based, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00. Shorter hours may be considered for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Client‑facing reception duties — Welcoming visitors, managing the reception area, and ensuring a professional and friendly first impression
- Call handling — Assisting clients over the phone, diverting calls, and taking comprehensive messages for fee earners
- Client service delivery — Providing an effective, client‑focused service both in person and over the phone
- Compliance and procedures — Following the firm’s procedures and manuals (full in‑house training provided)
- Post management — Daily checking, sorting and distributing incoming post; preparing and sending outgoing post
- Office administration — Filing, scanning, file opening and closing, and maintaining accurate records
- Office supplies — Monitoring stock levels and replenishing supplies as needed
Person Specification
- A positive, can‑do attitude and a professional approach
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong IT and numeracy skills
- Discretion and confidentiality, particularly when handling sensitive information
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organisational abilities
- Customer service experience, ideally within a legal or professional services environment
- Ability to multitask and prioritise in a fast‑paced setting
- Teamwork and initiative — able to work independently while contributing positively to the wider team
