Hours of work: 37.5 per week

We are currently recruiting for a registered nurse to join our multi-disciplinary team, committed to delivering a high standard of specialist palliative care to patients and their families within our In-Patient facilities. You will be required to work on internal rotation to include nights, weekends and bank holidays. Palliative care experience would be an advantage.

Job responsibilities

Staff Nurse – REPORTS TO: Ward Sister; RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Clinical Services

To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team in providing a high standard of specialist palliative care to patients and their families. Under the supervision of the Senior Staff Nurse and Ward Sister, be responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of patient care. To maintain agreed standards of care and to take an active part in the planning and implementation of clinical audits to improve nursing practice.

Dimensions: to work primarily within the In-patient specialist palliative care unit. To provide qualified nursing support to other aspects of the specialist palliative care service when necessary. The Post Holder has no direct budget responsibilities, but must be aware of cost implications and make effective use of resources.

Qualifications And Experience

Essential: Registered General Nurse on Part One or Two of the Register

Desirable: Palliative Care Modules in Specialist Palliative Care; To be working towards a Diploma in Nursing

Key Areas

  • Clinical: Be a safe practitioner; liaise with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure coordination and continuity of care; adhere to guidelines and protocols; meet agreed standards to deliver holistic patient and carer support; care delivered to patient needs.
  • Educational: Participate in training and professional development; contribute to team development; assist with in-service training for staff and volunteers.
  • Management/Leadership: Act as a role model; support leadership; manage ward responsibilities as designated; support Hospice volunteers; participate in ward meetings; maintain concise records.
  • Professional: Accountability and scope; annual appraisal; support junior staff; reflect on practice and engage in evidence-based improvement.
  • Clinical Governance: Participate in clinical audits; act as a change initiator to improve quality; support standards and policies.

Communication And Working Relationships: Frequent contact with patients, relatives, staff, volunteers, external partners, and clinical placements.

The Most Challenging Part Of Your Role: Support clinical governance, liaison within the MDT, motivate and support team members.

Essential: Post qualification experience - experience of working within a nursing team

Desirable: Palliative care experience

Qualifications

Essential: Registered General Nurse qualification at Diploma level

Desirable: Working towards Nursing Degree; Completion of Palliative Care Course/or training; Teaching course/qualifications
