We are currently recruiting for a registered nurse to join our multi-disciplinary team committed to delivering a high standard of specialist palliative care to patients and their families within our In-Patient facilities. You will be required to work on internal rotation to include nights, weekends, and bank holidays. Palliative care experience would be an advantage.
Responsibilities
- To work in a specialist palliative care environment, as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing high standards of care to patients and families.
- Under the supervision of the Senior Registered Nurse and Ward Sister, be responsible for the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of patient care.
- Maintain agreed standards of care and take an active part in the planning and implementation of clinical audits to improve nursing practice.
- Provide qualified nursing support to other aspects of the specialist palliative care service when necessary.
- Understand cost implications and make effective use of resources; no direct budget responsibilities.
- Hold and maintain active registration as a General Nurse on Part One or Two of the NMC Register.
- Provide highest standard of evidence-based, research-informed nursing care for all patients; plan, assess, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
- Supervise and support ward team members to ensure appropriate care for all patients.
- Provide a high standard of compassionate, patient-centred care and create a compassionate, caring, and safe environment.
- Act as an advocate for patients and their families or carers, providing information, support and directing them to relevant support services.
- Plan effective discharge from admission, liaising with the multidisciplinary team, other departments, social and community services as necessary.
- Develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge to provide research-informed, evidence-based nursing care; follow appropriate competency-based training.
- Be competent and compliant in the administration of medicines in line with Hospice policies; use electronic patient systems (e.g., EPMA) in accordance with policy.
- In the absence of senior staff, take charge of the shift, maintaining skill mix, bed management, and efficient use of time and equipment.
- Participate in staff appraisal, clinical supervision, and training of learners and Health Care Assistants; maintain confidentiality per NMC code.
- Lead and supervise unqualified staff within the team; communicate effectively within the multi-disciplinary team; take charge of the ward in the absence of senior nursing staff.
- Be productive and cost-efficient in delivering patient-centred care; participate in clinical audits, risk and quality issues, and incident management.
- Ensure data protection and GDPR compliance; coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team and keep all stakeholders informed of changes in patient condition.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, volunteers, the community, other professionals and external agencies; use persuasive and negotiation skills for sensitive information.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Essential: active registration as a General Nurse on Part One or Two of the NMC Register.
- UK Registration: Applicants must have current UK professional registration.
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check: Post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and requires a DBS check.
