About the Role

Based at our St. Austell campus, we're looking for a compassionate and dedicated Learning Support Practitioner (Visual Impairment) to provide specialist support to learners with visual impairments, helping them access education, develop independence and achieve their ambitions. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference every day by supporting learners both in and beyond the classroom.

Working closely with teaching staff, specialist services and external professionals, you'll provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual learner needs. You'll prepare accessible learning materials, including Braille resources, support students during lessons and assessments, and encourage them to build the confidence and independence they need to succeed in college and beyond. You'll also contribute to learner reviews, maintain accurate support records, use assistive technologies and work collaboratively to ensure learners receive the right level of support at every stage of their journey.

Skills and Experience

  • Level 2 Braille qualification (or equivalent) – essential.
  • A Level 2 qualification in English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting learners with visual impairments within an educational or training environment.
  • Excellent practical knowledge of Braille and accessible learning resources.
  • An understanding of inclusive learning practices and the Equality Act 2010.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and record-keeping skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships whilst promoting learner independence.
  • A caring, patient and professional approach with a genuine commitment to inclusive education.

Qualifications or experience in SEND, assistive technologies, Makaton, BSL, First Aid or personal care support would be advantageous.

If you're passionate about inclusion, believe in removing barriers to learning and have the specialist Braille skills to support learners with visual impairments, we'd love to hear from you.

Benefits

  • Generous annual leave schemes – 25 days per annum for support roles, plus a paid Christmas closure of two weeks for most roles.
  • Access to generous occupational pension schemes for teachers and support staff.
  • Flexible and supportive family friendly working practices.
  • A range of staff development activities available and all employees have access to free tuition on many of our courses.
  • A range of health and wellbeing initiatives to our employees including access to free counselling and a corporate eye care scheme.
  • Employee discount scheme via a corporate benefit scheme – discounts with major retailers.
  • Most of our campus sites offer free parking to employees as well as discounted restaurants and salons.

The Cornwall College Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful appointment to this role will require satisfactory completion of recruitment checks.

We are dedicated to fostering a sustainable and responsible work environment. Education and Training providers have a crucial role in preserving and protecting the environment for future generations.
