About the Role

Based at our Falmouth campus we are looking for a qualified and experienced Boatbuilding Specialist to join our established team. The role will involve assisting lecturers in delivering our Boatbuilding and Marine Technology Study Programmes. You will be responsible for the maintenance of tools, equipment and machinery, and the preparation of materials for practical sessions and projects; you will work collaboratively with other Learning Support Technicians across the Cornwall College Group and contribute to the necessary expertise required to run successful Boatbuilding and Marine Technology courses and other areas as directed. Supervise student activities to ensure safe working practice on or off site, contribute to a positive and professional working environment and assist with student enrichment activities.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have a Level 3 qualification in a relevant field as well as general experience in the boatbuilding, woodworking, and wood machining industries, along with proficiency in using computer-based systems such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel. A time-served apprenticeship, First Aid Certificate, and RYA Powerboat Level 2 qualification would be advantageous. Experience in boat handling and additional RYA powerboat or sailing qualifications are also desirable. We value personal attributes such as teamwork, self-motivation, initiative, flexibility, and enthusiasm. The successful candidate will be approachable, helpful to both students and staff, and possess strong communication skills.

Hours of work

This role is on a part-time basis; 22.5 hours per week.
