The purpose of the role is to support individual or small groups of learners in the achievement of their learning goals and the development of independent life and employability skills. A Learning Support Practitioner may also support learners with communication, behavioural & emotional difficulties and social anxiety. Learning Support Practitioners will aim to work with learners to develop independent study skills and strategies to assist in their own learning. The purpose of our provision is to develop independent, confident, and resilient learners who are well-prepared to engage with the wider community.

We achieve this in line with our College Values, which the successful candidate will be expected to uphold:

Experience within a similar role, perhaps as a Teaching Assistant or in a Support/Carer role would be present. A commitment to inclusive learning and a willingness to gain an understanding of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is essential, as is a sensitive and caring approach to learners and trainees. Literacy and numeracy qualifications, or a willingness to work towards Level 2 are essential (we will provide and fund your qualification(s) with us).

Benefits:

We have excellent terms and conditions of employment. We offer:

  • Generous annual leave schemes - 25 days per annum for support roles, plus a paid Christmas closure of two weeks for most roles.
  • Access to generous occupational pension schemes for teachers and support staff.
  • Flexible and supportive family friendly working practices.
  • A range of staff development activities available and all employees have access to free tuition on many of our courses.
  • A range of health and wellbeing initiatives to our employees including access to free counselling and a corporate eye care scheme.
  • Employee discount scheme via a corporate benefit scheme - discounts with major retailers.
  • Most of our campus sites offer free parking to employees as well as discounted restaurants and salons.

The Cornwall College Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
