About the Role

Are you passionate about teaching but still want to work hands‑on with animals? This role is ideal for someone with strong practical experience in animal care and management, combined with the knowledge and enthusiasm to inspire and educate others. As part of this position, you'll spend significant time working directly with a variety of animal species in a practical setting, while also delivering engaging classroom‑based learning and sharing your expertise with students. Based at Duchy College, we are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our dynamic Animal Management teaching team. The role involves tutoring, teaching, and assessing learners across a range of animal‑related subjects in both classroom and practical environments. We are committed to providing a rich, rewarding, and high‑quality learning experience that equips our students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for candidates with a broad experience in the animal industry and a very hand‑on approach. Knowledge in specific species would be preferred as our animal collection is broad and we need expertise to match. Animal Science based qualifications at a minimum level 4 or above are required. A teaching qualification is desirable. It is essential to be willing to work towards a teaching qualification if one is not currently held. Ideally, we are looking for someone who also has a teaching qualification (or experience of teaching/mentoring) and an assessor qualification; however, we would also love to hear from people with a passion for the sector and who want to be part of educating young people.

Hours of Work

This is a part‑time position of 22.5 hours per week. The successful candidate will be required to work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

We have excellent terms and conditions of employment. We offer:

  • Generous annual leave schemes: 42 days per annum for teaching roles (pro‑rata for part‑time), plus a paid Christmas closure of two weeks for most roles.
  • 37 days annual leave at commencement of employment, increasing to 42 days after successful completion of probationary period.
  • Access to generous occupational pension schemes for teachers and support staff.
  • Flexible and supportive family‑friendly working practices.
  • A range of staff development activities available and all employees have access to free tuition on many of our courses.
  • A range of health and wellbeing initiatives to our employees including access to free counselling and a corporate eye care scheme.
  • Employee discount scheme via a corporate benefit scheme – discounts with major retailers.
  • Most of our campus sites offer free parking to employees as well as discounted restaurants and salons.
