Engagement, Progression and Safeguarding Officer
Location: Newquay
Salary: £25,048.08 FTE / CC_31 / £13.02 per hour (actual pro‑rated salary £10,415 plus holiday pay £1,522.19, total pro‑rated salary £11,522.19, £14.92 per hour)*
Terms & Conditions: Term Time (25 hours/32 weeks), Support Contract

About the Role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen at Newquay University Centre for an Engagement, Progression and Safeguarding Officer. We are looking for an enthusiastic, supportive and positive team player who has experience working with young people and adults. The post holder will provide safeguarding and pastoral support to ensure that students are safe and can overcome barriers to engage with their academic studies and progression to next steps. They will support the physical and mental well‑being of students through personal interventions, work with external agencies and enhance the student experience through activities that encourage engagement. They will support student voice, including engagement with the campus Student Union.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will hold current Level 2 Safeguarding and Level 3 Multi‑Agency training, along with Safeguarding Adults qualifications, and a minimum Level 2 in English and Maths. Prevent training is essential. Experience with safeguarding, Prevent, and referral processes, and IT proficiency including college systems and Office 365, is required. Experience supporting or mentoring young people aged 14‑25, undertaking safeguarding interventions, and working with external agencies is required, along with an understanding of mental health issues and supporting adults. Personal attributes include a strong commitment to learners, excellent people skills, empathy, the ability to challenge and encourage, and a respectful, inclusive attitude that promotes equality and diversity. Desirable qualifications and experience include backgrounds such as Youth Work, Sports/Recreation, Advice and Guidance, supervising learners, providing welfare support, experience within a Student Union or Youth Club, and a minibus driving licence.
