The Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust (CAAT) are seeking motivated doctors to join the existing team of Specialist Paramedics in Critical Care (SPCCs) and Critical Care Doctors. Successful candidates will be passionate about, and experienced in, delivering high standards of critical care to patients in the pre-hospital environment. They will be required to demonstrate an enthusiasm to support Clinical Governance, a passion for training and education, and a strong sense of the importance of CRM and team-working principles.

Those interested in this role should have current practical experience of delivering autonomous pre-hospital critical care medicine, including pre-hospital anaesthesia, within the NHS (or be in the process of acquiring that experience in a defined posting), or other comparable healthcare system. Those currently acquiring the necessary skills and qualifications for this role are encouraged to apply for a deferred commencement, provided they are able to demonstrate that they will be able to satisfy all essential criteria for the role no more than 12 months from date of interview.

Those delivering this role will be experienced and competent in the field of prehospital critical care as part of a highly-skilled team. Clinicians will attend patients as part of a HEMS or RRV response, and will enable CAAT to move to deliver a 365-day Critical Care service to the population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Integral to the role is the provision of clinical and educational support to our team of highly-motivated Critical Care Paramedics during their study towards a Masters Level qualification in Critical Care and Retrieval Medicine, acquisition and development of focussed ultrasonography skills, Non-Medical Prescriber training, and the Diploma and Fellowship in Immediate Care.

It is expected that successful applicants will have experience working in a robustly governed pre-hospital service and take a leading role in clinical governance activities such as case review, policy and service development, training sessions, medical simulation and clinical feedback and debrief.

The above role will be undertaken through an Honorary Contract with the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, with whom responsibility for Clinical Governance responsibility lies. Interested applicants should therefore review the SWASFT Air Ambulance Doctor Job Description in the application pack to ensure they meet the requirements.

Closing date: Friday 6th February 2026, 5pm. Suitable candidates will be invited for an interview and selection process on Friday, 27th February 2026. For full details of the placements, including application instructions, please download the Candidate Application Pack linked below.

For additional information, please contact the unit Lead Doctor, David Ashton-Cleary (d.ashton-cleary@nhs.net) or Air Operations Officer, Steve Garvey (Stephen.Garvey@swast.nhs.uk). Please return your completed application form along with a copy of your curriculum vitae to Dr Ashton-Cleary via email as above. Those interested in the role are actively encouraged to arrange to meet the Lead Base doctor and other key members of the senior leadership team. Observer shifts with the team may be accommodated with prior notice.
