I'm working with an established technology-led business looking for a Technical API Integration Manager to take ownership of its API development and integration capability.

This is a hands-on technical role combining software engineering, customer-facing integration delivery and project management.

You'll be responsible for developing and maintaining REST APIs, managing customer and distributor integrations, and contributing to internal applications, automation and business software.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain REST APIs and system integrations.
  • Write, review, test and troubleshoot code independently.
  • Lead customer and B2B integrations from discovery through to go-live.
  • Work with internal teams, customers and third-party developers.
  • Improve integration architecture, documentation and technical processes.
  • Develop internal applications, workflow tools and automation.
  • Make effective use of AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering efficiency.

Important: This is not a pure project management position. You must be comfortable getting hands-on with code and taking technical ownership of solutions.

Essential experience and capability

  • Strong hands-on software-development experience involving APIs, integrations, backend services or internal business applications in a commercial environment.
  • Demonstrable ability to read, design, write from scratch, modify and debug production-quality code without relying on AI or other developers to perform the technical work.
  • Strong practical understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, JSON, authentication, error handling, data mapping and system-to-system integration.
  • Experience designing or materially contributing to API architecture and integration solutions.
  • Experience planning and managing customer-facing or B2B integration projects from discovery through testing and go-live.
  • Experience with source control, code review and disciplined software release practices.

Ability to review code and technical solutions critically and determine whether claims are supported by evidence.

  • Strong practical competence in AI-assisted software development, including requirements analysis, prototyping, code drafting, analysis, review, debugging, test generation and documentation, together with the judgement to recognise incorrect, incomplete or insecure output.
  • Ability to use AI to augment engineering capability while remaining personally accountable for architecture, code quality, security, testing and production readiness.
