Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industryâleading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. It is classified into two main product groupings â carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for opticalâbased communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of opticalâbased communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Purpose of the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Field Engineer (FE) to join our team in England, UK. The FE will serve as a technical expert and key representative of Corning's passive cabling products, providing accurate and reliable product information to customers. This role involves advising on proper installation methods, troubleshooting performance issues, and offering support regarding field installations. The FE will primarily support customers in the UK region and Ireland, working closely with customers and approved installers to ensure optimal product performance.
Technical Support and Customer Interaction
- Provide technical guidance and presentations on Corning products to customers, installers and partners.
- Advise customers on product applications, benefits, and system solutions, including detailed part number recommendations.
Pre-Sales And Post-Sales Support
- Provide preâsales support, including product recommendations, Bill of Materials, system design, training and testing.
- Provide afterâsales assistance, including installation advice, troubleshooting onâsite and field analysis of faulty product claims.
- Document claims thoroughly (observations, photos, data) and share them with the Manager, Quality team, and Product Line Management (PLM).
Collaboration And Feedback
- Give feedback to the development/PLM teams regarding product improvement ideas and compliance with regional standards and norms.
- Collaborate with thirdâparty vendors to ensure solution compatibility and seamless customer experience.
Qualifications And Skills
- A university degree in Telecommunications or Engineering.
- 2â5 years of experience in Telecom or Datacom, with a strong technical foundation.
- Technical knowledge in FTTH Networks, LAN and Data Centers.
- Fluent English writing and speaking; additional European languages are a plus.
- Computer skills (MS Windows based: Power Point, Word, Excel, Visio, SAP).
- Ability to convey technical, complex ideas to highly technical customers/colleagues.
- Ability to present/give training comfortably and confidently in front of groups from 10â50 people.
- Good handsâon skills: basic mechanical, troubleshooting, repair skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team, lead meetings to communicate customer needs, and actively listen to customers to understand and address their challenges.
Travel & Flexibility
- Position will be based in England.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% across the EMEA region but mainly around UK and Ireland.
- Must be flexible for shortânotice travel (24â48 hours), including overnight stays.
- Valid driver's license and appropriate travel documentation required.
- Standard 40âhour work week, with occasional weekend work or travel as needed.
