At Cornfield School, we create a nurturing, structured, and inspiring environment for boys aged 8 to 16 with social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. Set in the heart of Littlehampton, West Sussex, our school is purposefully designed to meet each student where they are, recognising their individual strengths and needs. Through tailored support and high expectations, we help our students grow academically, personally, and socially. We believe every child has potential. Our mission is to build confidence, resilience, and essential life skills—empowering our young people to thrive, succeed, and become positive, contributing members of society.
The Role:
We are looking to appoint a Teacher of Food Technology. The successful applicant will work alongside our friendly and supportive team of professionals who put the students at the heart of what we do. The successful candidate will demonstrate resilience and emotional robustness, recognising that while the role is highly rewarding, it can also be demanding. They will remain calm under pressure and communicate effectively with both young people and adults. Strong organisational skills are essential, along with the ability to prioritise, multitask, and consistently act as a positive role model for students.
The ideal applicant will have recent experience of working with children with SEN; however, experience in Social, Emotional and Communication Difficulties would be advantageous. Management experience is also an advantage, as well as being able to demonstrate excellent classroom practice. This is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to work in a school that focuses on supporting SEMH students to become more independent and provide them with skills and experiences that will enable them to be successful in life.
This post would be suitable for experienced and recently qualified practitioners wanting to commit to working with challenging students, although we will also consider applications from unqualified teachers with the right skill set and approach for working in an SEMH setting. Applications are invited from candidates on either UQT, TMS or UPS scales and visits to the school are strongly advised and encouraged.
An application form needs to be completed for this position and one will be sent to you upon applying for the role. Completed application forms should be sent to Tania Palfrey, HR & Finance, on tpalfrey@cornfieldschool.org.uk. Visits to the school can also be arranged by email or by calling 01903 731277.
