About Us

For almost two decades, Cornerstone’s infrastructure has quietly supported the UK’s mobile networks. Whilst we continue to strengthen that foundation and extend its reach, we’re in an exciting period of acceleration and product development that will see us enable more connectivity and compute to more communities and industries across the UK.

Health and safety is fundamental to everything we do. As Health & Safety Director, you'll shape and lead Cornerstone’s company-wide safety strategy, ensuring our people, partners and suppliers operate safely while supporting the delivery of critical digital infrastructure across the UK.

You’ll act as a trusted adviser to the Board and Senior Leadership Team, leading governance, assurance and continuous improvement across a complex operational and contractor-led environment. Working across the business and supply chain, you’ll drive a culture where safety is understood, owned and embedded in everyday decision‑making.

Why This Role Matters

The success of our business depends on managing risk effectively while enabling operational excellence. This role provides the leadership, governance and assurance needed to protect our people, contractors, customers and communities.

You will ensure Cornerstone has the right frameworks, controls and behaviours in place to meet its legal obligations, continually strengthen safety performance and support sustainable business growth. Your leadership will influence how decisions are made across the organisation, helping create a culture where everyone takes responsibility for safety.

  • Act as the principal health and safety adviser to the Board, Executive Team and key governance forums.

  • Maintain and continually improve an effective health and safety management system aligned with ISO 45001.

  • Provide oversight of significant operational risks, including work at height, electrical safety, lifting operations, driving, occupational health and contractor activities.

  • Lead serious incident response, investigations, regulatory engagement and organisational learning.

  • Drive contractor and supplier assurance, ensuring proportionate oversight and effective risk management throughout the supply chain.

  • Deliver meaningful insight through performance reporting, audits, inspections and assurance activities.

  • Build leadership capability and employee engagement, strengthening safety culture across the organisation.

  • Represent Cornerstone with customers, regulators, shareholders and industry bodies.

  • Lead and develop a team of health and safety professionals while managing budgets, systems and external partners.

What You’ll Bring

  • Significant director-level or senior leadership experience in health and safety within telecommunications, infrastructure, utilities, construction or another high-risk environment.

  • Expert knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, regulatory requirements and recognised management systems, particularly ISO 45001.

  • Proven experience advising Boards and senior leaders on governance, compliance, strategic risk and major incidents.

  • Strong contractor management, supply chain assurance and operational risk management experience.

  • Demonstrable success leading incident investigations, regulatory engagement and continuous improvement programmes.

  • Proven ability to drive positive cultural and behavioural change across large and complex organisations.

  • Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.

  • Strong analytical, communication and decision‑making capabilities.

  • Commercial awareness, including experience managing budgets, suppliers and external service providers.

  • Visible, credible and inspiring leadership style with a passion for developing people and teams.

Qualifications

  • Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow of IOSH, or demonstrably working towards Chartered status.

  • NEBOSH Diploma, Occupational Health & Safety degree, or equivalent Level 6 qualification.

  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

  • Qualifications in environmental management, auditing, construction safety or occupational health would be advantageous.
