We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical & Instrumentation Asset Engineer to assist with the management of Instrumentation and Control (E&I) assets and systems throughout the Scotland SGN network. Ensuring these systems and processes operate effectively, safely, and in full compliance with industry standards and best practices.
You’ll play a key role in supporting SGN’s realisation of modernisation and decarbonisation, contributing to forward‑looking initiatives such as H100 and biomethane—helping drive the future of energy within a supportive, innovative team.
You will be working closely with colleagues across several key functions/departments throughout the business, including maintenance, projects, asset management, physical security, IT and OT security teams. Additionally you will be required to engage with external stakeholders such as Ofgem and the HSE.

- The E&I Asset Engineer will assist with the management and compliance of E&I assets across SGN’s Scottish gas network.
- Provide technical input to engineering strategies, policies, and asset‑management decisions.
- Conduct and assist with audits, compliance checks, and management of process safety systems.
- Support operational and policy development through document creation, review, and updates.
- Build and present business plans for asset lifecycle management and compliance.
- Oversee elements of SGN’s Management of Change (MoC) process.
- Assist with CapEx approvals and coordinate with stakeholders to ensure compliant and cost‑effective delivery.
- Provide technical support and responses to asset queries across teams and departments.
- Research and review technical information for internal and external stakeholders.
- Use a range of computer systems and software tools for data management and analysis.
- Travel to SGN sites across Scotland as required.
The overall purpose of this role is to maintain a safe, reliable, and compliant gas network, ensuring high performance and resilience across SGN’s instrumentation and control assets.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience, knowledge, and a keen interest in:
- Instrumentation and Control engineering, including process measurement and automation systems.
- Hazardous Area (DSEAR) and ATEX Directives.
- Relevant British and industry standards relating to instrumentation and control.
- Producing new specifications and maintenance requirements to sustain asset life, reduce faults, and maintain compliance.
- Asset management and control systems within industrial or utility environments.
Qualifications And Personal Attributes:
- Degree in Instrumentation, Control, or Electronic Engineering, or a closely related discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).
- Proven background in an E&I, control systems, or instrumentation role.
- A performance‑oriented, self‑motivated individual able to manage workloads, priorities, and multiple stakeholders effectively.
- Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills, able to collaborate across all levels of the business.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly across Scotland.
