An opportunity has arisen for the position of Design Manager (MOBs) in the Network Planning and Design department (Risk Management), reporting to the Network Planning Manager. The base location is St Mary Cray, but the successful candidate must be willing to travel throughout SGN's Southern and Scotland Networks to carry out site inspections and attend meetings with other business areas or external parties including building owners.

What will you be doing day to day?

  • Managing a team of designers
  • Production, appraisal and approval of standard and complex designs for various gas supply types to domestic and commercial MOBs
  • Producing technical reports
  • Ensuring designs are compliant with the relevant Legislation and technical standards
  • Working with operational teams on application of designs
  • Managing any design variations on projects
  • Continual development of design processes and documentation
  • Working with the Building Safety Regulator, Local Authorities and other 3rd parties on planning and approval of designs
  • Providing technical support on MOBs as needed within SGN
  • Supporting the wider Network Management team with other tasks when required

What you will need

  • You must be a qualified Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or working towards this
  • You will have previous experience in Engineering Design
  • You will ideally have experience of managing staff
  • You must be able to demonstrate a history of successfully delivering projects, have excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong technical knowledge and understanding of the gas network
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Highly motivated with a flexible approach
  • Ability to respond and adapt quickly to change; and meet tight deadlines
  • The role will require some travel around the UK, therefore you must have a valid driving licence
