A structural steel specialist is currently looking for a permanent Fabrication & Welding Manager to take full ownership of production output across two fabrication workshops in Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire.
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: Circa £60,000 per annum (negotiable DOE) + performance-related bonus

This is a hands-on leadership post sitting within the existing management team, suited to someone with real depth in heavy-gauge carbon steel and a methodical approach to running a workshop floor.
Duties
- Take charge of every fabrication and welding operation running out of both depots.
- Write and keep current the working procedures that govern welding and fabrication, aligned to both industry norms and individual customer specifications.
- Hold the workshops to BS EN ISO 3834-2, 9606, 15614, 5817 and BS EN 1090, alongside internal tolerances on dimension and strength.
- Set the standard on the floor for welders and fabricators, holding the team to expectations around quality, throughput and safe working.
- Build a production programme that protects delivery dates while cutting down on wasted material and repeat work.
- Keep risk assessments current for every fabrication and welding activity carried out on site.
- Push improvement through the workshop and embed lean manufacturing thinking.
- Work shoulder to shoulder with estimating, design and logistics so production and commercial targets line up.
- Uphold health and safety practice to UK legislation, with all lifting operations meeting LOLER requirements.
- Keep full traceability on materials - serial numbers, steel batch records and supporting paperwork across both locations.
- Oversee stock levels for raw material, consumables and components so nothing holds up production or ties up cost.
- Meet COSHH obligations covering how paints, chemicals and other hazardous products are used and stored.
Requirements
- At least 3 years running fabrication or welding at senior management level within structural steel.
- Sound technical grasp of carbon steel fabrication, MIG welding and working across varying thicknesses.
- Recognised trade qualification in welding or fabrication - NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or similar.
- Track record of managing teams and sequencing production workflow.
- Working knowledge of welding codes and standards through to EXC3.
- A disciplined, process-led way of planning, delivering and improving.
- Strong communicator with the management ability a production environment demands.
- Full UK driving licence, as travel between the two workshops is required.
