About the Role

G. & D. Higgins Mechanical Services Ltd is looking for a reliable, organised and safety-focused Stores Coordinator (M&E) to support its M&E maintenance and operations teams.

This role is responsible for maintaining a safe, well-organised and accurately controlled stores function, including receiving, checking, storing, issuing and recording materials, tools, equipment and PPE.

The successful candidate will play an important part in supporting timely service delivery by preparing materials for engineers and allocated jobs, maintaining traceable stock records, and escalating shortages, discrepancies, damage or safety concerns promptly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive deliveries and check quantities, item details and condition against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
  • Record stock receipts, issues, returns, transfers and adjustments using the approved stock or job-management system.
  • Maintain clear stock locations, labels, part descriptions and accurate stock quantities.
  • Pick and prepare materials, tools, PPE and equipment for planned and reactive work.
  • Coordinate approved collections, deliveries and returns, ensuring appropriate handover or receipt records are retained.
  • Maintain issue-and-return records for company tools, test equipment and PPE.
  • Monitor inspection, servicing or calibration dates and segregate damaged or out-of-date equipment pending review.
  • Support supplier returns and warranty items by preparing records and tracking return references, credits and replacements.
  • Keep stores, access routes and fire exits clean, orderly and unobstructed.
  • Report shortages, discrepancies, delivery risks, hazards, unsafe conditions and security concerns clearly and promptly.
  • Work constructively with engineers, contract teams, purchasing, finance and suppliers.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Experience in stores, warehousing, stock control, materials coordination or a closely transferable operational role.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills, with the ability to check part numbers, quantities and supporting records accurately.
  • Competence using standard computer and mobile systems for data entry and record keeping.
  • An organised, methodical and accurate approach to work.
  • Ability to undertake physical duties safely, using provided equipment and following manual-handling requirements.
  • Clear communication skills and confidence escalating shortages, errors, discrepancies and safety concerns.
  • A dependable, honest and safety-led approach, with strong attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Experience handling mechanical, electrical, plumbing or building-services materials.
  • Experience using stock, ERP, CAFM or job-management software.
  • Manual-handling and COSHH awareness training.
  • Experience managing supplier returns, warranties, tool records or van stock.
  • Recognition of common M&E parts and consumables.
  • Forklift or materials-handling certification, if relevant to the equipment used.
  • A full UK driving licence, if supplier collections or site deliveries are required.

About You

The ideal candidate will be practical, dependable and service-focused, with the ability to stay calm and organised when priorities change.

You will take ownership of accurate records, safe stores housekeeping and follow-through, while working cooperatively with both operational and office-based colleagues.

This role is primarily based within the company stores. Supplier collections, site deliveries, travel requirements and any vehicle use are to be confirmed.

The role involves routine manual handling and movement of goods using approved methods, lifting aids and materials-handling equipment where provided.

Any site-access, security vetting, PPE or specialist materials requirements will be confirmed as part of the recruitment process.

What We Offer

  • Permanent, full-time employment.
  • A key operational support role within a respected mechanical services organisation.
  • The opportunity to work closely with engineers, contract teams, purchasing, finance and suppliers.
  • Training and support to help you carry out the role safely and effectively.
  • A team environment with a strong focus on safety, quality, accuracy and service delivery.
  • Salary, benefits, hours, overtime and any additional allowances to be confirmed.
