The Financial Controller will take ownership of the day‐to‐day financial operations for a specialist financial institution. The company is looking for someone who can immediately join the team initially on a temporary basis, but with the intention of making it a permanent position. This person will ensure robust financial governance, accurate reporting, and smooth delivery of all statutory requirements. This role is particularly suited to someone with experience managing a loan book, overseeing deal flow, and confidently navigating Year End in a fast‐paced, growing organisation.
You will act as a key business partner across the organisation, providing clarity, challenge, and insight while ensuring the finance function runs with precision.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the month‐end and year‐end close processes, ensuring timely, accurate financial statements in line with UK GAAP.
- Manage all statutory reporting, audit preparation, and liaison with external auditors.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
- Oversee balance sheet integrity, reconciliations, and cashflow forecasting.
- Maintain accurate records of the loan book, including drawdowns, repayments, interest calculations, and covenant monitoring.
- Produce regular loan book performance reports and scenario analyses.
- Ensure compliance with lender requirements, reporting deadlines, and financial covenants.
- Support modelling of new lending structures, refinancing, and portfolio changes.
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA).
- Proven experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager in a UK organisation.
- Strong understanding of loan book management, lending structures, and covenant reporting.
- Demonstrable experience managing Year End and working with external auditors.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge (UK GAAP essential; IFRS beneficial).
- Experience supporting deal activity (M&A, financing, investment, or similar).
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret and communicate financial data.
- High attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and a proactive mindset.
- Comfortable operating in a fast‐paced, high‐growth or entrepreneurial environment.
