Help shape the next generation of data engineers. Are you an experienced data engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and developing people? At Corndel, we’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer / Data Engineering Coach to help experienced professionals grow into confident, credible data engineers through our Level 5 Data Engineering programme. This is a role for someone who wants to stay close to modern data engineering practice while making a wider, longer-lasting impact through coaching, mentoring, and teaching.
Why Corndel?
- Corndel is a multi award-winning UK training provider, partnering with some of the country’s largest and most exciting organisations to develop capability at scale.
- We’re proud to be one of the fastest-growing companies in the UK.
- Deeply committed to quality, inclusion, and learner impact.
- A genuinely flexible, remote-first employer.
- An organisation where professional judgement and ethics matter.
You’ll join a supportive, entrepreneurial culture where your voice is heard and your impact is visible.
The Role
As a Data Engineering Coach (Level 5), you’ll work with learners who are already in the workplace, helping them connect theory to practice and grow from task-based execution into confident, reflective data engineering professionals.
You’ll:
- Coach and mentor a caseload of learners through 1:1 sessions and workshops.
- Teach practical data engineering concepts in a way that’s clear, relevant, and grounded in real-world experience.
- Help learners design and build reliable, scalable, secure data solutions – not just working code.
- Guide learners through assessments and portfolios with high standards and supportive feedback.
- Model strong professional judgement around performance, cost, security, privacy, and ethics.
This is a people-focused role with strong technical depth, ideal for someone who enjoys explaining why as much as how.
What You’ll Bring
Essential:
- Hands-on experience as a Data Engineer or closely related role (Senior / Lead / BI / Data-focused DevOps).
- Strong working knowledge of SQL (including complex queries and optimisation).
- Python for data pipelines and automation.
- Data modelling and normalisation.
- Batch data pipeline design.
- Cloud data platforms (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP welcomed).
- Understanding of data security, privacy, and ethical data use.
- Experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting others.
- The ability to explain complex ideas clearly and thoughtfully.
Nice to have:
- Azure data engineering certifications (or willingness to gain them).
- Experience with tools such as Airflow, dbt, Spark, Databricks, CI/CD.
- Workshop facilitation or structured learning delivery experience.
What Success Looks Like
- Learners trust you as a credible, supportive data engineering professional.
- Learners complete the programme and apply learning confidently in their roles.
- Data solutions learners build are robust, well-designed, and sustainable.
- You contribute positively to a collaborative, high-performing delivery team.
Who This Role Is Perfect For
You might be:
- A senior data engineer looking for more impact than another delivery role.
- A technical professional who enjoys mentoring and developing others.
- Someone who values quality, integrity, and inclusion as much as performance.
- A practitioner ready to shape not just systems but careers.
What We Offer
- Fully remote working with flexibility and autonomy.
- A supportive, inclusive culture with high standards.
- Investment in your professional development and certifications.
- The chance to influence data capability across multiple organisations.
- Work that’s meaningful, people-centred, and intellectually rewarding.
We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds. However, please note that we’re currently unable to offer visa sponsorship, so you’ll need to have existing right to work in the UK to be considered for this role.
As part of our commitment to create an inclusive workplace where all colleagues can be their true selves, excel in their roles and progress in their careers, we recognise the importance of embracing the diversity in the working population and making Corndel a fully accessible employer.
