We are looking for a Working Foreman to join our Grounds Maintenance team, based in Falmouth and covering the Falmouth / Truro / Camborne areas. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of multiple ground maintenance teams undertaking work across a wide range of sites. The successful candidate will have a wealth of experience in amenity horticulture and a proven track record of leading teams, compiling quotes for work and delivering excellent customer service.
The role of Working Foreperson will include:
- Running a small plant nursery
- Responsible for high end Horticulture work in parks and gardens
- Looking after and running a small team of horticulturists, volunteers and apprentices
- Be responsible for your team’s compliance with all relevant Health and Safety legislation and company policies, including compiling RAMS packs for the teams
- Monitor contract budgets to ensure all contracts return the required profit.
- Drive efficiency savings and look for new and inventive ways of delivering our service
- Providing supervisory support to teams, helping them keep sites well maintained and to contract specification, to include carrying out and recording site inspections
- Ensure all the team’s paperwork is correct and submitted on time
- Monitor and keep to acceptable levels of annual leave and sickness across the teams
- To assist teams with their work as and when required to include – litter picking, shrub pruning, grass and hedge cutting, weed control and removal
- A genuine interest in horticulture and the ability to provide advice and ideas for improvement across a wide range of different sites
- Using equipment and materials in a safe manner as instructed and in accordance with risk assessments, manufacturer’s guidance and company policy
- Carrying out all hazardous tasks such as weed control, in accordance with supplier guidelines ensuring relevant records are maintained to comply with health and safety and legal requirements
- Ensuring tools and equipment are maintained in good condition and continue to be suitable for required tasks
- Responding positively to requests for service and breakdowns in service delivery to meet customer expectations
About you:
Skills and experiences:
- Pesticide Application Certificate PA1 – PA6
- NVQ2 / NVQ3 or equivalent in Horticulture or similar discipline is essential
- Recent experience of undertaking a similar role leading teams and experience of operating grounds maintenance machinery
- This role will involve driving on company business. In order to drive a company vehicle, drivers must hold a full valid UK driving licence, Class C1E/LGV is desirable
- Self-motivation with the ability to use own initiative
