We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Service Delivery Manager to join our Highways Operations Team, supporting the delivery of a major highways maintenance and construction contract. This is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in delivering essential highway maintenance, minor civil engineering and improvement works that keep our communities moving safely. You’ll work alongside experienced operational teams, clients and supply chain partners to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and to the highest standards. About the Role

Reporting to the Service Delivery Manager, you will help coordinate and deliver a diverse programme of highway maintenance and construction activities across the county. You’ll be responsible for planning works, managing subcontractors, supporting operational teams and ensuring projects are delivered safely, commercially and in accordance with contractual requirements. This is a varied role that combines operational leadership, technical knowledge and commercial awareness, giving you the opportunity to make a genuine impact on the delivery of a high-profile highways service.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting the delivery of highway maintenance and construction schemes.
  • Planning and coordinating multiple work programmes.
  • Managing subcontractors and ensuring works are delivered safely and efficiently.
  • Monitoring programme performance, quality and commercial outcomes.
  • Carrying out safety, environmental and quality inspections.
  • Developing work packages and ensuring compliance with CDM and Health & Safety legislation.
  • Building strong relationships with clients, operational teams and supply chain partners.
  • Supporting contract performance through KPI monitoring and continuous improvement.
  • Leading daily operational briefings and promoting a positive safety culture.
  • Participating in the out-of-hours operational rota.

About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Experience within highways maintenance, civil engineering or highway construction.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills.
  • Experience coordinating operational teams or subcontractors.
  • Good commercial awareness and the ability to programme and cost works.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • A proactive approach to health, safety and quality.
  • Knowledge of highway maintenance techniques and construction legislation.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and project management software.
  • A relevant Health & Safety qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience of traffic management, estimating, contract management and CDM would be highly advantageous.
