Research and Innovation Services are seeking a Senior Administrator who enjoys working in a varied role. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a broad range of administration activities. The successful candidate will be employed to support the Perinatal Mental Health and Psychosocial Wellbeing work programme of the NIHR Inequalities Challenge: Maternity Disparity Consortium which is led by Professor Hora Soltani in the School of Health and Social Care.

This provides an opportunity to assist in the design of systems, processes and activities for this two-year research programme funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and led by Sheffield Hallam University.

Administrative duties include:

  • Support for the programme lead
  • Governance and compliance
  • Programme co-ordination
  • Finance and resource oversight
  • Funder liaison
  • Scheduling and organising steering committee and expert advisory group meetings
  • Linking with communities and work package lead meetings

To be successful in this role, candidates need excellent communication and organisational skills, manage their own workload with confidence, prioritise effectively and thrive when working independently and as part of a small team. There will be opportunities for training and development within a supportive and professional team.

This role will be based in the Research Operations Team aligned to the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences. The wider team delivers comprehensive and effective research management across the entire research lifecycle. This includes strategic pre-award of contract research, and post-award support for both grants and contract research, ensuring compliance with complex institutional, legal, and regulatory frameworks such as data protection, ethical governance, and contractual requirements.

In addition, the team oversees the planning and delivery of research-related events, supports three REF Units of Assessment, and contributes to strengthening the broader research environment.

You will be contractually enrolled into the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) – one of the largest and most generous defined benefit pension schemes in the country. If you are currently a member of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), you can choose to opt out of the LGPS and remain in the USS.

For this job, we particularly welcome applications from minority ethnic applicants who are underrepresented in this area at Sheffield Hallam. The role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route so if you are an international applicant, you will need to ensure you have an appropriate visa to evidence the necessary right to work in the UK.
