Teaching Fellow in the International Relations of Contemporary China in Oxford

The Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA) is seeking to appoint a part-time (0.75 FTE) fixed-term Teaching Fellow in the International Relations of Contemporary China. This is an exciting opportunity to join Oxford’s internationally renowned Contemporary China Studies Programme (CCSP) and contribute to graduate teaching and supervision in one of the world’s leading centres for the interdisciplinary study of contemporary China.

The successful candidate will provide teaching and supervision at graduate level, contribute to examining and graduate admissions processes, and play an active role in the academic life of the School. In addition to teaching on the International Relations of Contemporary China, the postholder will contribute to research methods teaching, including research design sessions, and undertake advanced academic study to support teaching and student supervision.

• Convene, organise and teach the MSc/MPhil option course “The International Relations of Contemporary China”, including lecture/seminar sessions and essay review classes.
• Supervise MSc dissertations and provide academic guidance and feedback on student research projects.
• Contribute to core teaching on the MSc in Contemporary Chinese Studies, including research methods and thesis proposal workshops.
• Undertake assessment and examination duties, including marking assignments, dissertations and providing written feedback.
• Participate in graduate admissions and departmental examining processes.
• Act as a point of contact for student matters relating to attendance, conduct, course progress and welfare, referring matters where appropriate.
• Contribute to departmental administration, collaborative projects and academic meetings within Contemporary China Studies.
• Undertake advanced academic study to underpin lectures, seminars and supervision.

Applicants should have:

• A doctorate (completed, submitted or close to completion) in the International Relations of China or a closely related field.
• Experience of teaching high‑achieving students at graduate level and the ability to provide excellent teaching in the International Relations of China.
• The ability to supervise and advise MSc and MPhil students on research projects and dissertations.
• Strong organisational, collaborative and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Experience of, or commitment to, student pastoral support and welfare.
• A willingness and ability to contribute to academic administration, assessment, examination and course design.
• A strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and to fostering an inclusive academic environment.
• Commitment to professional development and continuous learning.
