We are seeking a Research and Innovation Assistant to join our Centre for Immuno-Oncology, part of the Nuffield Department of Medicine. The post, reporting to Dr Lennard Lee, is a member of a research group responsible for providing research support for the UK Cancer Vaccine AI Scientist and Supercomputing Project. The holder advises and guides research students when appropriate.

The UK Cancer Vaccine AI Scientist and Supercomputing Project is a government supported national flagship initiative bringing together artificial intelligence, autonomous laboratory technologies and sovereign AI supercomputing to develop safer, more precise and more effective personalised cancer vaccines. Hosted by the University of Oxford, the programme seeks to accelerate scientific discovery by creating an AI Scientist capable of reviewing scientific knowledge, generating hypotheses, designing experiments, controlling laboratory workflows and analysing results within a continually improving research cycle.

Responsibilities

  • You will manage your own research and administrative activities, contributing to wider project planning and new research ideas.
  • You will determine the most appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses and identify suitable alternatives if technical problems arise.
  • You will contribute to scientific reports and journal articles and present data/papers at conferences.

Qualifications

Essential: A degree in a related subject (biology, immunology, vaccinology, maths, machine learning) with experience in the operation of research projects, sufficient specialist operational knowledge in the relevant discipline and the ability to manage research and relevant administrative activities.

Contract & Salary

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 12 months and is funded by MRC. Salary (£): Standard Grade 6: £35,681 - £41,636 with a discretionary range to £45,212 p.a. (pro rata). This salary is inclusive of a pensionable Oxford University weighting of £1,730 per year (pro rata).
