Research Assistant - Computational Chemistry for Dementia

We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant in Computational Chemistry to join Oxford Drug Discovery Institute (ODDI) at the Centre for Medicines Discovery. The postholder will support early-stage drug discovery programmes aimed at identifying and developing novel therapeutics for people living with dementia, working within a multidisciplinary team of medicinal chemists, biochemists, cell biologists and other researchers.


You will be responsible for applying computational chemistry, chemoinformatics and machine learning approaches to drug discovery, including molecular modelling, virtual screening, molecular dynamics and structure-activity relationship analysis. The role also involves developing computational workflows, supporting research data systems, maintaining reproducible research records and communicating scientific progress to multidisciplinary project teams.


It is essential that you hold a Bachelor’s degree in computational chemistry, chemistry, medicinal chemistry, bioinformatics, pharmaceutical sciences, chemical physics, mathematics or a related discipline. Practical experience with computational drug design tools, chemoinformatics and scientific programming is required, alongside familiarity with machine learning and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Experience with Linux/HPC environments, machine learning libraries, databases, generative chemistry or drug discovery research would be advantageous.


This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 24 months and is funded by Alzheimer’s Research UK.


Salary (£) : Research Grade 6: £35,681 - £41,636 with a discretionary range to £46,476 p.a. (pro rata). This is inclusive of a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,730 per year (pro rata).
